Hi, my name is Janalee. I am a passionate Director with a unique eye that shines a light on diverse voices and narratively intriguing layers that ultimately result in richer stories.  I have worn many different hats during my years of working for creative agencies, and indie film crews, from Art Director to Post Production Supervisor, to AC, and now to Director. My passion and primary focus now is directing for both commercial and indie films. My previous positions have taught me to fully understand and support my crew, allowing me to see the big picture but, more importantly, to utilize everyone’s strengths to weave together the most compelling version of a story together. I love collaborating with passionate creatives that push each other to extraordinary. Currently, I am drawn to human-led stories that focus on unique perspectives, flawed characters, and diverse cultural experiences. My recent narrative short, GRANDMA LEE’S DRESS, was a finalist in CBC’s Short Film Face Off (season 16) and can be viewed on CBC Gem. I am currently working on a new short, THE KNITTING DIARIES, which just received funding from Telus, Storyhive and that I’m hoping to develop into a TV series one day. If you have a creative project that you want to collaborate on, or if you want to know more about my projects, I would love to hear from you.

Be curious, be kind, and always listen deeply.

Janalee
